Professor M.J.N. Priestley (1943-2014)

It is with deep sadness that we report the loss of our friend and ROSE School founder and Emeritus Co-Director, Professor Nigel Priestley.

Professor Priestley was the mind, together with Prof. Calvi, behind the creation of the ROSE School, which became renowned all over the world in earthquake engineering and engineering seismology education and research. He was a most eminent scholar and reference in the fields of masonry and reinforced concrete structural behaviour, design of concrete bridges and displacement based design, amongst others.

In addition to the ROSE School, Prof. Priestley has had a profound impact on the University of Canterbury and the University of California, San Diego.

In Pavia and at ROSE he will always be remembered for his unique courses and character and his truly exceptional legacy will keep on inspiring generations of earthquake engineers.

The ROSE community would like to extend its most sincere condolences to the family of Professor Priestley, wishing all the best in this difficult time.
