Kazuhiko Kawashima is Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. He received his B.E., M.E. and Doctor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at the Nagoya University, Japan in 1970, 1972 and 1980, respectively. He joined the Public Works Research Institute of the Japanese Ministry of Construction in 1972 and had been involved in research in the area of earthquake engineering. He joined the Tokyo Institute of Technology as a professor in 1995. He is currently working on the ductility evaluation of structural components, structural response of bridges, seismic retrofit with use of high performance materials and systems, and seismic isolation of bridges.
