The International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib - fédération internationale du béton) has awarded the special mention of the 2011 edition of the fib Achievement Award for Young Engineers to Domenico Pennucci, former PhD student in Earthquake Engineering at the ROSE School of Pavia, for his PhD thesis entitled "Performance-Based Seismic Design of Tall RC Wall Buildings", regarding the development of a rational performance-based design procedure for tall structures in seismic areas in which higher mode effects become predominant.
The certificate was presented to Domenico Pennucci at the fib Symposium in Prague (8-10 June 2011), during which he gave a short lecture. He has also been invited to submit a paper summarising his work for publication in fib's "Structural Concrete" journal.
This award, which recognizes an outstanding contribution to structural concrete in the field of research, was first given in 2001 at the fib Symposium in Berlin and it is awarded every two years.
