The course aims at providing the students with the capability of performing seismic risk analyses for realistic structures, a task that they might be increasingly called to face in the actual profession in the coming years. Propedeutic to the goal of the course are a thorough introduction to the basic concepts and rules of probability theory, and of the methods of time-invariant structural reliability, and, finally, a certain familiarity with the criteria for selecting and using earthquake records. In the last week the course introduces the students to the field of random processes and vibrations, as a prerequisite to presenting on-going research, and giving them the tools to understand future developments in the field.
